July 22 Meeting notes

Review of Survey

  • Survey highlighted trust issue – Stage 2.
    • Rick noted that within the model, the stages are not sequential. Teams can skip a stage or go through it once and find that the stage must be revisited.
    • Interestingly, on the model, an unresolved Stage 6 High Performance, points back to Stage 2 Trust.  Our survey scores and ranking on the survey concur.
  • Discussion of Extrovert vs. Introvert
    • Significant differences in processing. The extrovert thinks out loud while the introvert thinks internally and only voices final thought. The extrovert then questions that final thought as a part of processing, but it can appear argumentative to the introvert.
    • On the other side of the picture, the introvert processes internally, and does not share all the pieces of the puzzle. This changes the balance of sharing information. Within those thoughts could be a key to the puzzle for the extrovert.
  • Task vs. Learning – The group discussed the balance of our focus on the task versus on the learning. This execution style may also have had an impact in creating conflict. It turned the group into co-actors vs. valued partners.
  • A review of the technology impact on the team found that one member’s limited connectivity limited the team’s options for communication. Phone was the only option.
  • Lastly, our team would like to ask Connie and Gary what their thought process was in putting us together. What did they anticipate would happen?

Completing the Task

  • First discussion was regarding the survey.  The group decided to put a link on the blog to the survey results. This is our deliverable regarding the group performance as compared to the Drexler-Sibbet model and TeamSpeak.
  • Within the comments is the evidence that we need to complete the SWOT Analysis.
  • Lastly, the team finished by reviewing all the blog pages for any needed corrections including with the references.

‘To Do’ Lists

This list is sequential this time simply due to the nature of the work.
  • Kim
    • Organize our thoughts from the survey into SWOT.
    • Place the Contract on the About page.
    • Make any needed changes to stages 1-3
  • Lynette
    • Build the Analysis page.
    • Fix Pages 5-7
    • Make sure all notes are on the blog.
  • Rick
    • Adjust the layout of the blog to make the page wider so all the tabs fit.
    • Fix pop-ups on all the pages.  Make them open in new tabs.
    • Create a video for Connie and Gary as an introduction to our project.

July 7 Meeting Notes

Hi all.

Thanks for the productive meeting tonight. I'm looking forward to spending more time in zoos around the country!  :-)


Here's our decisions and action items...

All - update Virtual Team Center (VTC) stages 1-7 to include "unresolved" section at bottom of each page. Use the caution cone graphic as a break between the main content and the unresolved section. Complete before 7/22 meeting.

Rick - create pop-up page discussing what to do when the team demonstrates unresolved behaviors, and link to it from stages 1-7. Complete before 7/22 meeting.

Lynette - create Qualtrics survey incorporating TeamSpeak & TPM for our team assessment. Survey to be live before Kimberly's mission trip. Upload survey results before 7/22 meeting (before Lynette's Ohio trip).

All - take the team survey, making memos regarding our question responses in preparation for 7/22 discussion. Review results after posted and before 7/22 meeting.

Next virtual meeting...

7/22 - conference call 7:30 PM ET (back-up date 7/23, same time). Agenda: discuss survey results and what it tells us about the shape of our team assessment deliverable.

June 25 Meeting Notes

June 25 Meeting Notes


Reviewed the pages of the web site. Here is the update of to-do items:
  • On the welcome page we are going to add the Quick Reference Job aid that compares Drexler Sibbet to how we would recommend modifying to virtual teams
  • Kimberly will update that one pager of the comparison and then look to Lynette and Rick for input
  • Stage 1 - RIck is emailing Kimberly the visual from the book so Kimberly can recreate visual and insert into Stage 1
  • Stage 2- Kimberly will take text out of the middle of the page to shorten up the text. Will also review some trust building exercises to see if we can add a link to an exercise that will help bring trust building to life
  • Stage 3 - Kimberly will create a link for another page on how to ensure that mental models are shared.
  • Rick will have stages 5, 6, 7 up onto the site by Saturday morning 6/27 for Lynette to review
  • Final Page- We will have a Summary page that includes all of our our other project deliverables including a link to our contract, link to our SWOT and link to the comparison with TeamSpeak Model.
  • Rick will compile the references into one word document, convert to PDF and then create a link for the references on the home page. Rick will also take out the text of the references that are currently on the welcome page and just put them into the compiled references document. 
  • We are hoping to communicate via email over the next two weeks to let each other know when things are complete and we will share feedback via email. 
  • We are scheduled for a call on July 7. Can we do 7:30 again rather than 7? The goal is to do a run through of the project and maybe have it completed??

  • Kim’s suggestion – validate model within virtual context with other literature
    • Identify the seven steps – introduce the model
    • Describe the model – using DS research
    • Analyze how each step would work – specifically in a virtual environment
  • Division of the parts – 500-750 words per step
    • Kim – Orientation, Trust Building, & Goal Clarification
    • Rick – Set up, Commitment, & Conclusion
    • Lynette – Implementation, High performance, & Renewal
